GREENWOOD – A date has been set for a special town meeting to consider the recall of Selectman Ivan Roberts.
The meeting will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 at town hall, Town Manager Kim Sparks said Friday.
The Greenwood Board of Selectmen on Sept. 7 officially accepted a petition requesting Roberts be recalled. With 65 signatures, the petition met a requirement that 10 percent of the number of votes cast in the last gubernatorial election be represented for a recall.
Roberts had the opportunity to resign from the board but refused, saying that he had no intention of quitting. He has also pointed out that no formal charges of wrongdoing have been brought against him.
According to the town’s recall ordinance, which was adopted by the voters in March, residents may petition for the recall of elected municipal officers. The town clerk must certify that all the petition requirements are met before the document is submitted to the selectmen.
