MEXICO – Linda Petrie, a teacher in SAD 43 for 38 years, has announced her candidacy for the House District 93 seat in the state Legislature.
The district represents Mexico, Dixfield, Carthage, Canton and Peru.
She is also a member of the Governor’s Leadership Task Force on Creating a Future for Youth in Maine.
“My top priority will be the vital issues of education, job creation and tax reform,” Petrie said.
Petrie is an activist in the community as a member of St. Theresa’s parish, currently serving as lector and Eucharistic minister, as well as a volunteer for the Greater Rumford Area Ministers Pantry Service and an active member of the Mexico Historical Society. She is a member of the Mexico Advisory Board and serves on the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition Board.
Petrie was active in the St. Theresa’s Parish Council, serving as a member, then chairwoman of the Education Commission and also as president of the council. During her teaching career, she was a nominee for Maine Teacher of the Year and also recognized twice in Who’s Who Among American Teachers. She was also a member of the National Teachers Association, Maine Teachers Association and local teachers’ associations throughout her career.
A lifelong resident of Mexico, Petrie and her husband, Bill, a 43-year employee at Mead Paper and member of Local 900, have two grown children and two grandchildren.
