LIVERMORE FALLS – The Izaak Walton League is partnering with the Norlands Living History Center in Livermore to organize volunteers interested in outside work for one or more days in exchange for a year’s privileges at the Norlands.
The Norlands needs help clearing brush from the existing trail system so that people can enjoy the entire Norlands property on a day-to-day basis, not only when festivals or other events are scheduled.
With a little work, the property’s under-utilized trails can offer the same opportunities as those in days gone by.
People who enjoy hiking, running or strolling could use the trails to access viewing areas from trail-side ridgetops or the chance to sit by two reflecting pools as originally constructed by the Washburn family. Horse and carriage enthusiasts could also use the trails.
For every individual who helps to clear the trails, the following privileges will be offered: An annual pass to access the Norland grounds for a full year; the opportunity to hunt and fish on the property; and free admission to festivals at the Norlands year-round. The first work day will be Saturday, Oct. 2. Those wishing more information should contact George Lyons at the Norlands, 897-4366, [email protected].
