GORHAM – Katie Carroll scored a pair of first-half goals to give the Bates women’s soccer team a 2-0 victory over the University of Southern Maine Wednesday afternoon.

Carroll broke a scoreless tie in the 30th minutes as she one-timed a short cross from Jenna Benson past USM keeper Marcy Ansley. The margin doubled in the 36th minute as Carroll cut a bad angle, left to right past Ansley into the far side of the net.

Bates 3, St. Joseph’s 1

STANDISH – Terrence O’Connell scored twice in the second half to lift Bates to a 3-1 win over St. Joseph’s.

Alex Wolff scored first for Bates in the sixth minutes of play. Shannon DeShield evened things up for St. Joseph’s with a goal assisted by Kyler Hengst at 62:02, before O’Connell scored back-to-back unanswered goals.

UMF 3, Husson 0

FARMINGTON – Tyler Hartshorn led a trio of players to score as the University of Maine at Farmington rolled past Husson 3-0.

Rob Cloutier and Craig Cameron also recorded goals for the Beavers (3-2). Seabren Reeves needed only two saves in net to notch the win.
