LEWISTON – Jeffrey Wright was supposed to make his pro debut in this weekend’s pro-am boxing card at the Multi-Purpose Center.

But for nearly three years, the up-and-coming boxer has been battling mind-numbing migraines after being involved in a serious car accident in which he suffered a hairline fracture in his neck.

And now the boxer might never step in the ring again.

“He is the most talented kid I have ever seen walk into my gym,” said Jeffrey’s grandfather, Joe Gamache Sr. “This kid had everything. He’s tried to comeback.

“This is one of the biggest setbacks we had. He’s such a talent.”

Jeffrey’s mom, Terry Gamache, says therapy and medicine hasn’t helped alleviate her son’s pain.

“He can’t even run,” said Terry. “Honestly, I don’t think he will ever fight again. He’s on so much medicine. Nothing has helped.”

Joey Gamache also believes his nephew won’t be back in the ring.

“There’s no way that we can let him fight with the pain he is having,” said Joey. “The potential that he had was incredible.”
