SOUTH PARIS – Edward George “Chick” Myers, Jr., 79, of South Paris, died Thursday, Sept. 23, at the Maine Veterans’ Home.
He was born at home in Norway, Maine on Jan. 26, 1925, the only son of Edward G., Sr. and Juliette Perry Myers.
“Chick” resided in the Norway-Paris area his entire life, graduating from Norway High School in 1942.
During World War II, from 1943 to 1946, he served in the European Theater as Sergeant attached to the 3rd Division, 30th Infantry Battalion. He saw action as a part of the liberating forces in Italy, France, Germany and Austria.
After his discharge Edward married Marjorie A. Thompson on Aug. 20, 1949.
Under the GI Bill Program he attended Bliss College in Lewiston, graduating in 1950. He was the Office Manager at John P. Cullinan Company for more than 37 years, retiring in 1987.
He was a communicant of St. Catherine of Sienna Church in Norway, where he proudly served as an Altar boy. He was a member of the Stone-Smart Post #82 American Legion in Norway, a charter member of the Floyd A. Harlow, Jr. Post #9787 V. F. W. in So. Paris, a charter member of the World War II Memorial Society and a Corporator of Stephens Memorial Hospital.
He married Muriel Walker Hiebert on Dec. 17, 1976 in So. Paris.
Music and playing his ukulele were a very special part of his life.
He was devoted to his family and will be sadly missed by those who loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Muriel, of So. Paris; a daughter, Michele A. Myers of West Paris; a son, Bruce E. Myers and his wife, Dr. Margaret A. Federhart, of Boone, N.C.; a stepson, Mark W. Hiebert and his wife, Cynthia, of Bethel; a stepdaughter, Diane R. Hiebert of Oxford and her friend, Alvin B. Leino, of Harrison; and four stepgrandchildren, Lucas C., Matthew G., and Kiirsten A. Hiebert and Molly A. Farrington; two aunts, Germaine Poirier and Diana Hemingway; and several cousins.
