BETHEL – The Androscoggin River Watershed Council will offer two field workshops this fall for wildlife enthusiasts and anyone interested in conservation and habitat protection.

Through the newly created Androscoggin Watershed Institute, wildlife and fisheries biologists from Maine and New Hampshire will discuss some of the critical issues facing wildlife, fisheries and habitat management. They will also go to some of the special places that hold magic for those who find mystery, beauty and fascination in the outdoor world.

Noted experts on land preservation methods, fishery and land use issues, water quality protection and aquatic ecology will make field trip presentations on Saturday, Oct. 9, in the Bethel area. A nature walk along the Androscoggin River, as well as a guided afternoon canoe trip with guest speakers will also take place.

On Saturday, Oct. 16, in the White Mountains area of New Hampshire, a workshop will feature speakers on wildlife habitat conservation, trout stream restoration techniques and northern forest issues.

A special feature will be an afternoon pontoon boat trip into the Lake Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge with two of the regions leading experts on loons, eagles and waterfowl.

Those interested in finding out more about the field workshops can visit the Web site at www.androscogginriver.org or call 603-466-3433. The registration fee for each workshop is $60, which includes morning refreshments, box lunches, canoe shuttle services and a pontoon boat trip.
