LISBON – Coombs Mountford Post 158 and Unit, American Legion, will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, at the post home, Webster Street.

Life chain

LEWISTON – A Lewiston-Auburn Life Chain will be held from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, when local pro-lifers will line the sidewalks along both sides of the Longley Bridge, pray for an end to abortion and display signs.

This will be Lewiston-Auburn’s 11th annual Life Chain, held rain or shine. Children under close supervision are welcome and chairs may be brought for the elderly or handicapped.

Those interested should gather at Great Falls Plaza next to the Auburn Post Office at 2 p.m. to pick up a poster. For more information, call 782-7721.

Golden Agers

MONMOUTH – The Golden Age Club will meet Wednesday, Oct. 6, at the Packard Activity Center, United Church basement, with a potluck luncheon at noon. Final plans for the Oct. 9 foliage trip will be discussed.

Animal blessing

READFIELD – A Blessing of the Animals will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3. Those attending can follow the signs from the corner of Route 17 and Church Road to Walker Road.

The pet shoudl be on leash or in a travel container or a photo can be brought. There will be a time for remembering past pets. Dress casually.

People treats, animal treats, music and trails will be available to walk afterward. There will be optional guided meditation around a small pond using the words of St. Francis and other animal lovers.

Septic workshop

LEWISTON – Androscoggin Valley Conservation District will host a program on Wednesday, Oct. 13, titled, “Septic System Workshop for Homeowners.”

The workshop will cover the basic aspects of how systems function, maintenance and how to identify problems. Deborah Kendall, York County district, will lead a discussion on additives, water softeners and alternative systems.

The workshop will be held at the USDA Service Center, 254 Goddard Rd., from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Preregistration is required, and there is a $5 fee. Light refreshments will be offered.

Crop Walk

LISBON – The Lisbon Area Christian Outreach Crop Walk will be held on Sunday, Oct. 17, to benefit the outreach.

The walk 4.5-mile will begin at 1:30 p.m. at McCarthy Park in Lisbon and end at the United Methodist Church in Lisbon Falls. There will be an alternate route for wishing to walk a shorter distance. That two-mile route will begin at 2 p.m. at Ridge School on Route 9 and will also end at the United Methodist Church.
