LANCASTER, N.H. (AP) – Two days after he became liable to be tried as an adult, a teenager Tuesday pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the shooting death of his mother.

His plea in Coos County Superior Court came two days after he turned 17.

Bernard Poulin was 16 when he was charged in the death of Linda Poulin, 51, in January.

Prosecutors said she was shot with a handgun in the back of the head as she ate breakfast at their Whitefield home.

Bernard Poulin fled in the family’s truck and was arrested at a traffic stop near Buffalo, N.Y., the next day.

Poulin was held at the Coos County jail for a sentencing hearing in November.

Bush uses Gregg for debate practice

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – Sen. Judd Gregg says he is honored that President Bush has chosen him to play a Democrat for the second time in preparation for presidential debates.

“It’s been fun, but a lot of work,” Gregg said Tuesday, adding that “it’s hard to keep up with John Kerry’s changing positions.”

The Republican played Al Gore four years ago and this week has been making believe he is Kerry as he and the president practice for the debates.

Gregg spent the weekend with Bush in Crawford, Texas, adding that the two men speak to each other daily as they prepare for the debates.
