I applaud the citizens of Lewiston for sending Rep. Margaret Craven to Augusta.

A champion of keeping college affordable, she helped lead the effort to open the community college system for Maine citizens and restore low-interest loans and scholarships for college-bound students.

On the K-12 level, she voted to change the school funding formula for the benefit of Lewiston and other communities throughout the state with high percentages of needy students. The change provides needed resources to Lewiston teachers as they attempt to get their students to reach higher standards through the Maine Learning Results.

Finally, Rep. Craven took the lead against the ill-conceived and underfunded No Child Left Behind Act. The act would call Maine schools failures without providing the resources for improvement and it undermined Maine’s already high standards.

Rep. Margaret Craven is a true asset in Augusta.
