The Lewiston Maineiacs’ game against the Rimouski Oceanic took on a whole new dimension on Saturday when Rimouski officials announced that phenom Sidney Crosby would miss the game after suffering a “severe contusion” on his left knee.

According to published reports, there is no ligament damage to Crosby’s knee, but team doctors are saying he will miss 10 to 14 days.

The injury is a result of a knee-on-knee hit delivered by Halifax forward Frederik Cabana in the first period of the Mooseheads’ 4-2 win on Friday in Rimouski.

Lewiston held a 6-2 edge over the Oceanic in the eight-game season series last year, and currently trail Rimouski by three points with three games in hand in the Eastern Division.

Lewiston begins a four-game road swing today at 4 p.m. in Rimouski. The team will return home again this week before heading out to Rouyn-Noranda, Val d’Or and Gatineau next weekend.
