LEWISTON – Advocates for Children will bring the Active Parenting Now for parents of children ages 5 to 12 program here starting Wednesday, Oct. 6.

The workshop will show parents effective ways to use non-violent discipline techniques that work; improve communication with children; teach responsibility and other values; handle problems as they come up; cope with difficult topics such as drugs, violence and sex; defuse power struggles with children; stimulate independence as the child grows older; and encourage children to be their best.

In six sessions, parents will learn a proven approach to parenting that will lead to more harmony and happiness for them and their children. The program uses video, activities and discussion to show ways to raise responsible, cooperative children who are able to resist negative peer pressure.

Active Parenting Now will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays for six weeks beginning Oct. 6 through Lewiston Adult Education in collaboration with Advocates for Children.

Child care will be available and registration is required. Contact Lewiston Adult Education at 795-4141 to register. The fee is $5, with an additional charge of $12.95 for the required parent handbook.
