AUGUSTA – Old Fort Western, the 1754 National Historic Landmark fort, store and house museum on the Kennebec River, will conclude its 250th anniversary summer season with fall-focused activities from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, Oct. 9, 10 and 11, Columbus Day weekend.

Visitors will be able to tour the fort and participate in activities relevant to its military, store-keeping and residential history, 1754 to 1810, on Saturday. Included will be one of the last chances to view the fort’s special anniversary virtual architectural tour.

Sunday will feature harvest-related garden, cooking and other kitchen-related activities. Cider-making may be among the demonstrations offered.

On Monday the focus will be on traditional fall and winter-preparation demonstrations, including making vinegar and other 18th-century household tasks.

Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children between ages 6 and 16. Kids under 6 and all Augusta residents are admitted free.

Old Fort Western will remain available for pre-scheduled school and other group programming through Nov. 12. Pre-scheduled programming is available in public and private schools and where other groups meet, year-round.
