Dear Sun Spots: We are starting a library in our church. We are in need of bookcases and books for adults and children. Is there anyone out there who would be willing to donate these items for our new library? It sure would help us. The name of our church is The Twin Bridges Pentecostal Church, formerly the Christian Center in Harrison. I don’t have a truck but will find a way to get these items. Thank you for helping us to have this special library. Please call me at (207) 345-3887. – Mrs. Pat Maberry, Mechanic Falls.

Dear Sun Spots: I have a sweater that’s 80 percent silk and 20 percent cotton. It has a smell to it. I hand-wash it, cold water and inside out, with mild detergent. Still the smell is there. I also had it dry cleaned. It’s an expensive sweater. Any suggestions? – P.D., Auburn.
Answer: In addition to responses from readers, according to www.thriftyfun.com, try putting the clothes in a sealed container, (storage box works well) or a tightly sealed plastic bag and add a few cotton balls soaked in vanilla.
You might want to consider giving it a gentle wash beforehand. You should also ensure it can be air dried easily as maybe the odor is from the sweater drying too slowly.
Dear Sun Spots: I am looking for someone knowledgeable about vintage and/or antique costume jewelry. I understand there may be an appraisal fee.
Answer: In addition to responses from readers, you may want to contact Dan Poulin at Orphan Annie’s, 96 Court St., Auburn, (207) 782-0638.
