AUBURN – A man who robbed the Rite Aid pharmacy on Minot Avenue on Friday afternoon remained at large into the night.
Police said the lone man walked into the store at noon, handed a note to a pharmacist and made off with at least four bottles of the painkiller OxyContin.
No one was hurt in the afternoon heist. Police said the note handed to the Rite Aid employee specifically demanded Oxycontin.
The suspect left the store quietly after the robbery and witnesses could not say which direction he took. Police were unsure whether he left on foot or in a car.
Officers descended on the store minutes after the robbery was reported, but there was no sign of the suspect. The case was assigned to a detective who could not be reached later Friday afternoon.
Witnesses described the robbery suspect as white, between 5 feet, 8 inches and 5 feet, 10 inches tall with a thin build.
When he robbed the store, he was wearing a dark blue pullover shirt, faded black jeans and a green baseball cap pulled down over sunglasses, police said. Investigators are asking that anyone with information phone them at 784-7332.
OxyContin, used to control pain in cancer patients and others, has been the target of pharmacy robberies for years, locally and in other parts of the country.
