FRYEBURG – The Fryeburg Fish and Game Association will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11 at the Fryeburg Fire Station on Main Street.

George Smith, Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine executive director, will discuss the referendum calling for an end to bear baiting, taking of bears by trapping and bear hunting with hounds. He will also discuss the financial situation of the state’s Inland Fish and Wildlife Department, which will have a $7 million deficit.

Smith, serving his 10th year as executive director of SAM, is an outdoor writer with monthly columns in the SAM News, a weekly TV program called “Wildfire” and a weekly column in the central Maine daily newspapers.

Sportsmen from area fish and game organizations are invited to attend.

The business meeting will be held after the program, including the activities of the Fryeburg Fair booth, rifle raffle and the giveaway of trigger locks.
