BETHEL – Selectmen have scheduled a special meeting on Monday with the town’s Budget Committee to discuss a possible $405,000 project that would stabilize a portion of the Androscoggin River bank that was weakened during last December’s floods. Damaged during the flood was the riverbank along Davis Park, resulting in the destruction of a sewer outfall pipe that extended into the river below the park.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Town Office.

Federal Emergency Management Agency officials earlier this year reviewed the damage, then offered to pay 75 percent of the cost for the repair.

The town must raise just over $101,000 from undesignated funds as its share. The breakdown of costs for the overall project are: $293,000 for construction, $31,000 for engineering and inspection, and $81,000 for contingency expenses.

At Monday’s meeting, both board will review the proposed plan, then make a recommendation to townspeople.

Residents will have final say on the matter at a special town meeting, tentatively scheduled Oct. 18.
