LIVERMORE FALLS – Albert A. Jones Sr., 97, a longtime resident of Livermore Falls, died Sunday, Oct. 10, at the farm where he was born, with his family by his side.

He was born Dec. 23, 1906, in Livermore Falls, the son of Edgar Gordon and Carolyn Bumpus Jones. He attended school in Livermore Falls.

On June 18, 1933, he married Elva May Smith in Livermore Falls. She passed away on June 4, 2002. They made their home in Livermore Falls where he was self-employed as a dairy farmer all of his life.

In the early years, he sold milk door-to-door on his in-town milk route, and raised cash crops. For several years, he worked his teams of horses in the woods. He was well known for raising Durham steers, which he showed and pulled at Maine fairs for more than 50 years, winning many first-place prizes.

He was a member of the New Norland Grange, the Maine Farm Bureau and the New England Ox Association.

His hobbies were dancing and playing cards.

He is survived by four sons and their wives, Albert “Sonny” Jr. and Flora of Livermore Falls, Gordon and Maureen of Livermore, Robert and Marcia of Livermore Falls, and George and Linda of Jay; sister-in-law, Mildred Watkins of Farmington; brother-in-law, Timothy Smith of West Palm Beach, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Harold and Alton Jones; and three sisters, infant Mildred, Vernice Goding and Marguerite Nichols.
