AUBURN – Community Little Theatre director Richard Martin will hold auditions Oct. 17 and 18 for “Inherit the Wind.”

Sessions will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, and at 6:30 p.m., Monday Oct. 18 at the Great Falls Performing Arts Center on Academy Street.

“Inherit the Wind” is a fictionalized courtroom drama of the Scopes-Monkey Trial. The 1925 trial in Tennessee pitted two intellectual greats against each other. At issue: a state law banning the teaching of Darwin’s theory of evolution and a Dayton teacher’s knowing infringement of that law.

Characters to be cast include: Matthew Brady, famous politician and lawyer, a paunchy and an indeterminate 65; Henry Drummond, a famous lawyer skilled in legal defenses; judge, humorless and pragmatic man; Tom Davenport, Hillsboro prosecutor, a business-like young man; E.K. Hornbeck, a reporter, in mid-30s; Mrs. Brady, a pretty, fashionably-dressed woman; Bertram Cates, age 24, pale young man, quiet, shy and well-mannered; Rachel Brown, age 22, second-grade teacher; Meeker, a bailiff; the Rev. Brown, a gaunt, thin-lipped man, father of Rachel; mayor, another pragmatic man; and Mrs. Krebbes, a humorless Hillsboro woman.

People who are unable to attend the auditions may call the director, 783-1828, or e-mail him at director@adelphia.net.

The performance dates are Jan. 7- 9, 14-16, and 21 and 22.
