LEWISTON – The Maine Table Tennis League will be hosting the first Fall Table Tennis Open on Saturday, Oct. 23 at its headquarters, the Multi-Purpose Center, 145 Birch St., Lewiston. The event is sponsored by STIGA, Paddle Place and NITTAKU, and is sanctioned by USA Table Tennis.
The format will be round robin events of 4 to 6 players per group, with the top 2 advancing to a single-elimination round. All matches will be best 3 of 5, with 11 point games. There will be competition for Junior, Senior, Women, Doubles and Singles divisions. All USATT rules and regulations will apply, and players must wear dark shirts and shorts, tennis shoes or sneakers.
Entries must be received by 10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21 to avoid a penalty. Entries received after that date will be charged an extra $5 late fee. All necessary information on the event may be obtained on the website at www.mainetabletennisleague.com.
Jim Amfilo is serving as tourney director and the state-sanctioned referee will be Rick Shea. Other tourney committee members are Guy Boisse and Norm Berube.
Officials are expecting entries from all over New England and beyond.
