GARDINER – The Open Book Players readers theater is presenting two performances of Edgar Lee Masters’ “Spoon River Anthology.” They will be 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, and Saturday, Oct. 23, in Johnson Hall.

A Sunday matinee had been announced earlier, but has been canceled.

Cast members are Judith Chase, Kay Demers, Joan Diplock, Lindsay Heald, Hannah Lennett, Keith Ludden, Janet Mecca, Lucy Rioux, Andy Tolman, Cindy Turcotte, Dorothy Washburne, Bob Witham and Bob Demers.

Early American folk songs will be sung by Judy Chase, Keith Ludden, Janet Mecca and Andy Tolman. Sound, lighting and box office support is provided by Lyn and Caitlin Ballou, JJ Barnett, Lucy Rioux and Cindy Turcotte. Lighting is engineered by Noah Dionne.

In the play, the dead in an Illinois cemetery share with the audience, through monologues and song, details from their lives and their thoughts on life in general. The people represent almost every walk of life, scoundrels, lechers, idealists, scientists, politicians, village doctors, atheists and believers.
