Are you blessed with a new baby? Are you about to become a first-time grandparent or a first time great-grandparent? Or maybe you are already enjoying a growing family or are celebrating another grandchild or another great-grandchild? Tell the new kid he or she should send a thank-you card to our Supreme Court president, George Bush.

Bush’s generosity overfloweth. He has been so generous he has given each new child (as well as the rest of us) a personal piece of the debt of $25,218.94 and that’s only as of Oct. 11. It gets better every day. He has awarded the nation (that’s all of us) a national debt that is beyond comprehension. Who can fathom $7,426,201,947,426.65? That is a lot of debt. Just to add a little comfort, you might keep in mind it has a nasty habit of rising at the tune of $1.710 billion every day.

Somebody (I think it was the “Mission accomplished” president) said we have turned the corner. Some corner. It’s a corner that sends debt up, as in spiral. So, my happy new parents, grandparents and great-grandparents, wrap that IOU and a cuddly little teddy bear in a dandy, ribbon-bedecked, not-easy-to-open box. Then, with a hug and a kiss, hand it to that new entry into the national debt-ridden army.
