FARMINGTON – Abbie Ellen Thompson, 96, of Farmington, died Friday afternoon, Oct. 15, at Orchard Park Rehabilitation and Living Center, Farmington.

She was born Aug. 29, 1908, in Kingfield, a daughter of the late Jacob L. and Harriett Atwood Thompson.

She was a 1926 graduate of Kingfield High School, and attended Farmington Normal School.

During her early years, she worked summers at Megantic Fish and Game Club, and taught school in Freeman from 1926 to 1928. For two years, she worked at the Strong Post Office, and for several years with SAD #9 in the school cafeteria.

On Jan. 15, 1927, she married Fred A. Thompson, in Kingfield.

She was a 50-year member of the Red School House Extension of Farmington.

She enjoyed going for walks, sewing and knitting. With her husband, she enjoyed spending winters in Florida.

She is survived by two daughters, Jeanette Stevens and her husband, Robert, of Temple, and Harriett T. Fortier and her husband, Robert, of Winter Park, Fla.; a son, Leroy F. Thompson and his wife, Anne, of Farmington; two brothers-in-law, Floyd Ellis of Kingfield, and Julian Thompson of Waterville; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased in 1990 by her husband of more than 63 years.
