MEXICO – George F. “Fitzy” Fitzmorris, 75, of Fifth St., died Saturday, Oct. 16, at Rumford Community Hospital following a long illness with his family at his side.

He was born on Feb. 21, 1929, the son to Francis J. and Mary H. (Hickey) Fitzmorris, and was educated in Mexico schools.

George served in the U.S. Army in the 82nd Airborne during the Korean War.

He then moved to Connecticut and lived in Bridgeport, Conn. for many years, and was employed as a diesel mechanic and construction worker.

George was a communicant of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, a member of the American Legion Post No. 24 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

He was a true Irishman who loved spending time with his family, fishing, listening to Country and Western Music and will be remembered for his quick wit.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rena (Cloutier) Fitzmorris, of Mexico; two sons, Francis M. Fitzmorris and wife, Billie, of Chesterville, Duane J. Fitzmorris and wife, Alice, of Ansonia, Conn.; two daughters, Sharon A. Fitzmorris, of Ansonia, Conn., and Rowena F. Dickinson and husband, Chip, of Ansonia, Conn.; a brother; Robert Fitzmorris and wife, Beryl, of Roxbury; two sisters, Eva Spaulding and husband, Stanley, of Mexico, and Sarah Lowell, of North Ft. Meyers, Fla.; eighteen grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two sons, David G. Fitzmorris and John J. Fitzmorris; three brothers, Clifford, Albert and Bernard Fitzmorris; and two sisters, Mae Collette and Margaret Bernard.
