RUMFORD – The next Business Lunch & Learn seminar will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20, in the River Valley Technology Center, 60 Lowell St.

Rachel Lynch will speak about “Selling to the Government – a $250 Billion Market.” She is a procurement specialist at the Market Development Center of Maine’s Procurement Technical Assistance Center, www.mdcme.org.

This seminar will provide the first steps in obtaining a government contact with an emphasis on the manufacturing sector.

It will include: a government market overview, how to get started, required registrations and identifying a market.

The cost is $8, payable the day of the seminar. Lunch will be provided. Preregistration is required and may by done by calling (207) 369-0396.

Water facility plan reviewed

RUMFORD – The Rumford Planning Board will hold a hearing at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at the Municipal Building in the auditorium for the site plan review application of Matt Gallant to build a water bottling facility, known as Bull Rock, on Lot 45A along the Industrial Park Road.

Mental health group sessions

RUMFORD – Family/Friends and Consumers for Education and Support will hold free monthly educational programs on the fourth Tuesday of each month. The first session, titled “Why Don’t They Just Stop? An Empathetic Look at the Struggle to Change,” will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, at Beacon House, 150 Congress St.

The workshop will be presented by Diane Farnum, well-known local family educator and support group facilitator. The curriculum design is interactive, with several exercises intended to help participants gain a better understanding of how hard it is for anyone to change.

Other programs in the series will be “Four-Phase Crisis Plans” in November and “Positive Supports and Behavior Plans” in December. Input from participants will help decide topics to be presented in the new year.

FACES is a weekly mental health support and education group for family members and friends of people with mental illness and their loved ones.

The group meets each Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Beacon House.
