RUMFORD – Quilters in the greater Rumford area are invited to join together to make quilts as part of the annual Make a Difference Day on Saturday, Oct. 23.

The day is when many Americans dedicate time to help their neighbors and make a difference in their community. It is sponsored by USA Weekend and encouraged by the Paul Newman Foundation.

Some quilts will be red, white and blue for the residents at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris. Others may be made for the local Abused Women’s Advocacy Project, Hearts for Hope, which is a temporary home for the homeless in Rumford, or the Wrap a Smile project, which is sponsored by Rotary International. Other recipients may also be included as they are made known.

Quilters plan to meet from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church fellowship hall. Quilters and nonquilters are welcome. There are tasks that nonquilters can do to help. Many handcrafters are donating materials. Organizations or individuals who would like to help with the expense of this project are welcome to do so.
