JAY – Richard W. Ferland, 62, a resident of Hyde Road in Jay, died suddenly Sunday, Oct. 17, at his home.

Born in Livermore Falls, March 22, 1942, the son of Wilfred and Jeannette Marceau Ferland, he was a 1960 graduate of Livermore Falls High School.

“Dick” served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1963. He worked at International Paper Co. in Jay on No. 2 paper machine, retiring in 2001 after 40 years of service.

He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay, a member of the I.P. Quarter Century Club and Union Local 14 of Jay. He enjoyed camping, reading, playing cards, NASCAR racing and the company of his cat, “Misty.”

He is survived by his longtime companion, Marilyn Grant, of Livermore Falls; a son and his wife, Douglas and Jill Ferland, of Jay; a daughter, Linda E. Ferland and her fianc, Robert Ehlinger, of East Greenbush, N.Y.; his former wife, Vonita Williams Gerrier, of Jay; two sisters, Doris Flagg, of Garden Grove, Calif., and Arlene Keroack and her husband, Bernard, of Havelock, N.C.; two grandchildren, Mathew and Kristen Ferland; and several nieces and nephews.
