WEST BOWDOIN – Richard Garland Purinton, 87, passed away peacefully at his home in West Bowdoin, on Oct 20.

Born Oct. 18, 1917, he graduated from Bowdoin College and served as a captain in the Air Corp during World War II.

He was respected for the integrity of his work as a civil engineer/inspector for four decades.

He will be remembered for his honesty, dry wit, intelligence and tolerance and for his love and appreciation of the land he was born and grew up on. He continued to develop his capacities in physical, emotional and spiritual areas throughout his life.

He was an active member and mentor of a local men’s group during the last 10 years of his life.

He is survived by his brother, Harold; sister, Ruth Hall; his children, Jonathan, Kat, William, Matthew and Stephanie; 10 grandchildren; his stepchildren, Raymond, Cheryl, Susan and Sarah; and his beloved companion, Ruth Dean.
