LEWISTON – Florence E. M. Bailey, 81, of 11 Goff Ave., Lewiston, died Friday, Oct. 22, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in St. Agathe on Dec. 28, 1922, she was the daughter of Maxime and Edith Sinclair Roy. Following the death of her mother three days after her birth, she was brought to Lewiston and raised by her aunt and uncle, Paul and Lila Pinette.

Educated locally, she was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of ’41. On Nov. 5, 1942, she was married to Charles E. Bailey, who passed away on Sept. 3, 1996. A member of St. Patrick’s Parish, she belonged to the Rosary Sodality, and was a former member of Fairlawn Country Club, where she was instrumental in founding the Fairlawn Ladies Golf Association.

In her later years, she became very active as a volunteer at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, and knitted hundreds of pairs of mittens and slippers for needy children. She loved to play cribbage with her friends and enjoyed the company of her two cats, Clancey and Lizzie.

Survivors include a son, Michael E. Bailey, of Poland; three daughters, Margaret and husband, James Grant, of Auburn, Cathy Laprise and partner, Terry Fournier, of Lewiston, and Susan and husband, Michael Bowie, of Poland; a sister, Blanche and husband, George Martin, of Newton, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Kevin and Craig Bailey, Carrie Lucas, Kathy Levey, Robert Martin, Sherry McLaughlin, Derek Laprise and Sean Bowie; and 11 great-grandchildren.
