LISBON – A celebration was held on July 31 for Robert and Carmen Guay of Lisbon, on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary. The party, hosted by their daughter, Helen Fournier and her husband, Marc, of Biddeford and their son, Paul and his wife, Diane, of Cape Elizabeth, was held at the Korn Haus Keller Restaurant in Lewiston.

Before the dinner, a Mass of Thanksgiving was held at Holy Cross Church, with the renewal of vows in the chapel, following the Mass. The couple’s grandchildren were also in attendance. They are Marcy Fournier of Biddeford, Christopher Fournier and his wife, Jessica, of Old Town, Andrew Guay of Cape Elizabeth and Kristina Guay of Saco. Two of Mrs. Guay’s original attendants were present at the celebration, Rolande Pomerleau, who was the maid of honor, and Lorraine Chouinard, who was a bridesmaid.

The tables were decorated in a yellow and gold theme with yellow roses on the honor table. Wedding pictures of the couple were displayed throughout the room. The dinner menu was printed with a wedding picture and a current picture of the couple. The couple was presented with a box which contained written mementos brought by the guests, of a favorite memory they shared with them.

Mr. Guay and the former Carmen Levesque were married on July 31, 1954, at Saints Peter and Paul Church. They honeymooned in New York City.

Mrs. Guay was employed at Senter, Giroux, Canniff and Company and Knapp Shoe, before becoming a full-time homemaker. Her hobbies include reading, word puzzles and enjoying the company of her children and grandchildren.

Mr. Guay was employed for 37 years as a union sheet metal worker in Local Union 545/17. He also served as financial secretary and fund administrator and president of the local union for many years. He enjoys working on his computer, gardening and researching the family genealogy.

The couple has spent many winters in Florida, namely in the Bradenton area. They often get together with the “Florida Gang,” which consists of long-time friends who also winter in Florida, as well as friends they met in Florida and live in the area.
