I am a local college student. A few months ago, a high school friend of mine was killed in Iraq. Was it truly necessary for him to die? Is this “war on terror” political, or is it personal? I mean personal according to our nation’s president.

A president is supposed to make decisions for the betterment of our country. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem that way. How does this important leader sleep at night, knowing that he was the cause of more than 1,000 deaths, many of whom were 18- to 25-year-olds, who just started their lives and who had trust in our nation’s protector.

This November, America will have the opportunity to keep things as they are or change them by electing a different president. I think the war in Iraq will be one of the most important issues, if not the most important issue, in this upcoming election. Some Americans believe it was the right thing to do, and some Americans, like myself, believe it was the wrong way to handle the situation.

In the three debates, Iraq seemed to be the main focus point. There are so many questions left unanswered. The biggest one, I think, is: when are our troops coming home? We hear every day from the media that America has lost more soldiers.

This will be one of the biggest elections in the history of the United States. I hope when decision time arrives people will make the right choice.
