AUBURN – A 24-year-old city man faces multiple charges after leading police on a high-speed chase through parts of New Auburn early Sunday morning.

Leon E. Hunt of 129 High St. was arrested about 1:15 a.m. on South Main Street and charged with assault, operating under the influence, operating without a license and eluding a police officer.

A pursuit of Hunt by city police started nearly an hour before his arrest.

Police chased him through the area before the car he was driving spun out of control and slammed into a utility pole while trying to turn onto Witham Road.

The car left 111 feet of skid marks leading up to the crash site.

Hunt suffered minor injuries in the crash.

The car he was driving, a 1996 Mazda owned by Lindsy Archer, also of 129 High St., sustained an estimated $6,000 in damages.
