LEWISTON – Monique L. Martel, 68, of 315 East Avenue, Lewiston, passed away with all of her family members by her side, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center on Saturday, Oct. 23, following a short illness.

She was born in Lewiston on April 28, 1936, the daughter of William G. Martel Sr. and Maria D. (Pomerleau) Martel.

She was educated at Holy Cross Parochial School in Lewiston, and also at Mary Joseph Academy in Biddeford, after which she became Sister William Marie with the Order of the Presentation of Mary.

After returning to secular life, she was employed for many years at Pioneer Plastics in Auburn.

She enjoyed working outside with her flowers and gardening, and also enjoyed leisurely rides with her brother, Bill, and sister, Pearl. Her favorite pastime was playing Beano and trips to Foxwoods with her many friends. Her family was her life, and she was always there to support them.

A devout Catholic, she was a member of Holy Cross Parish.

Survivors include four sisters, Georgette and husband, Joseph Mathieu, of Sabattus, Jacqueline and husband, Ronald Drapeau, of Auburn, Pearl Martel (with whom she resided), of Lewiston, and Michelle and husband, Conrad Robitaille, of Lewiston; two brothers, Paul Martel and wife, Joline, of Lewiston, and William G. Martel Jr., of Auburn; a very close and dear friend of many years, Yvette Sirois, of Lewiston; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her father, William G. Martel Sr., in 1963; her mother, Maria D. Martel, in 1994; and a brother, Robert N. Martel, in 1990.
