LEWISTON – Police this week were searching for a man who burst into a Wood Street home Wednesday night and robbed a woman there at gunpoint.

Detectives created a composite drawing of the assailant in the late-night heist at the downtown end of Wood Street.

Investigators said the assailant burst into the home at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, armed with a handgun, and demanded money.

The sole occupant of the apartment, a woman who lives there, gave up an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the apartment.

The victim was able to escape to a neighbor’s home, where she called for help, police said. But by the time officers arrived, the assailant was gone.

Detective Brian O’Malley has been working with the victim since the holdup in an attempt to learn the identity of the robber.

He is described as between 5 feet, 7 inches and 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighing about 175 pounds. O’Malley asked that anyone with information about the robbery call him at 795-9000, extension 230.
