PARIS – George Washington Bachelder, 81, of Rumford, died at the Maine Veterans Home on Oct. 28.

He was born on Jan. 4, 1923, at Langtown Plantation the son of Moses and Mildred (Foss) Bachelder and was educated in local schools.

He worked most of his life in the lumber business as a certified grader. He was an Army veteran of World War II and Korea. He loved the out-of-doors, hunting, fishing and camping with his wife, Rosalie.

He is survived by one son, Ken Bachelder and his wife, Janice, of Locke Mills; four daughters, Lori Pulsifer and her husband, Kenneth, of Rumford, Fern Benson, of New Mexico, Kathy Mason and her husband, Al, of Greene and Jeanne Dow, of Harrison; one half-brother, Sonny Bachelder, of Rome; one stepbrother, Eddie Marston, of Peru; two stepsisters, Dot Tyler, of New York, and Mavis Brooks, of Hanover; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; as well as a special friend, Margaret Robbins, of Paris.

He was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Rosalia (Palmer) Bachelder, one son, Don Pike, one sister, Myrtle Tripp, and two brothers, Onel Bachelder and Orrie Bachelder.
