Slanted. Slanted is how I would sum up the articles and photos of the past few days, for example, the Oct. 23 issue.

The front page has a picture of Elizabeth Edwards campaigning with what appears to be a background straight out of an Oprah show – the limelight is cast on her and a banner can be seen that spells out “Excellence.” She is surrounded by a throng of applauds. Looks great.

But when I turned the page to A3, I saw our own Sen. Olympia Snowe campaigning for President Bush at a Republican rally at Veterans Park. With all respect to the senator, she looks lonely, her hands together as if she is either freezing cold or begging for someone to step up and rally with her; and in the background, other than the two lone strangers, there is no crowd, no applauds, no banner; just a very stark, cloudy scene of the bank of the Androscoggin with the Hilton Garden Hotel (at least I think that’s what it is; it’s so far away I can’t be sure).

Now I know that it is not the choice of the Sun Journal where these people decide to meet, but I get more of a sense of warmth and appeal reading the obituaries, than any coverage of anything Republican.
