ORONO – Ashley Schneider received a pass from Kath Shelly at 72:48 and drilled into the back of the net to lift Colgate to a 3-2 win over the University of Maine in field hockey play Sunday afternoon.

Lauren Remkus gave The Raiders (11-7) an early lead scoring at 27:38 of the first half while Sally Mazzocchi scored a second half goal.

Shaunessy Saucier and Rachel Hilger each scored a second half goal for the Black Berars (12-6) to send the game into the extra stanza.

Jacque DeMarco made 13 saves to register the win, while Jamie Morin turned abck six shots for Maine.

Colby 1, Bowdoin 0

BRUNSWICK – Jennifer Rilley scored mid-way through the first half as Colby College handed Bowdoin College a 1-0 setback in NESCAC field hockey action Sunday afternoon.

Reilly broke into the scorring column at 17:17 of the first half and Jamie Emos made it stand turning back 15 shots to preserve the shutout.

Women’s soccer

Bowdoin 3, Bates 0

LEWISTON – Katherine Whitley scored a pair of goals to lead Bowdoin College to a 3-0 win over Bates College in the NESCAC Women’s Soccer Championship at Russlell Street Field on Sunday afternoon.

Whitley scored the game-winner converting a pass from Rachel Gordon depositing it in the lower right corner for all the scorring the Polar Bears would need.

Grace Moore added a goal and Whitley added her second goal in the second half to put the game out of reach.

Anna Shapell made three saves to record the win while Kewlly Wakeham and Emily Howieson combined for seven saves for the Bobcats.

UMF 2, Elms 1

FARMINGTON – Erin Campbell found the back of the net unassisted in overtime to propell the University of Maine at Farmington to a 2-1 win over Elms College in quarterfinal playoff action Sunday afternoon.

Elms took the early lead when Joanne Novack scored with 15 minutes left in the second half, but Angela Kendall answered converting a pass from Jodie Welch with 11 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the score setting the stage for Campbells game-winner.

Melissa Merchant needed only a pair of saves to ecord the victory.

Men’s soccer

Bowdoin 1, Amherst 0

BRUNSWICK – Simon Parsons broke a 0-0 tie in the 56th minute when he took a pass from Andrew Russo and flew down the right siodeline deeking an Amherst defender and depositing the ball over the outstretched hands of the keeper to lift Bowdoin to a 1-0 win in first round NESCAC soccer action Sunday.

Nathan Lovitz turned back six shots to register the shutout victory.

Mitchell 5, St. Joseph’s 1

JERSEY CITY, NJ. – Mitchell College scored five unanswered goals, including the go-ahead tally with only 14 seconds remaining in the first half, to send St. Joseph’s College to a 5-1 setback in the consolation game in the Division III Independents Northeast Region Soccer action Sunday afternoon.

Brandon Ledger led the Pequots with a pair of goals and an assist while the Monks lone goal was scored by Kenny Kahoe unassisted.

Southern Maine 2, W. Connecticut 1

GORHAM – Kevin Colwell snapped a 1-1 tie with 7:04 to play giving the University of Southern Maine a 2-1 win over Western Connecticut in men’s soccer action Sunday afternoon.

The Huskies (11-4-3) first goal came from Andy Budelman converting a pass from Kevin Dunham-Conway to set the stage for Colwell’s game-winner.

Jeff Gray made six saves to record the win in the season finale for both teams.

The Warriors (5-11-3) lone goall was scorred unassisted by Bradley Fidler at the 60:57 mark.
