LEWISTON – Sam Stilkey, 83, of Lewiston, passed away peacefully in his home Sunday morning.

He was born in Portland, on Feb. 24, 1921, the son of Albert and Grace Stilkey.

He lived his entire life in various parts of Maine, including Sydney, Pownal, Gardiner, Unity, and for the last 10 years, Lewiston.

Sam was a man of many passions. He loved his cats, old time music, kids, fishing, and cheating at cards with his many girlfriends. He enjoyed musicals (especially “Hello, Dolly”), singing at the top of his lungs, visiting with “Pet”, and going out to eat.

To meet Sam once was to have a friend for a lifetime. His colorful personality was endearing, his sense of humor infectious. He touched everyone he met and taught all those around him about perseverance and love.

He will be affectionately remembered and sadly missed by his “family” and friends. We are all better people for having been graced by knowing him.
