KEENE, N.H. (AP) – A selectman from Bennington died in a road race Sunday.

Selectman Bruce Edes was nearing the finish line in the 4.5 mile Halloween costume race when he collapsed. Other runners and emergency workers tried to resuscitate him, but were unsuccessful.

Friends said he was 54 and apparently in good health. He worked as a farm manager for Monadnock Paper Mills and volunteered with the Boy Scouts, the town fire department and the ambulance squad. He also ran in the Boston Marathon to raise money for cancer research.

A memorial table will be set up at the polls in Bennington on Tuesday so people can pay their respects.
