FARMINGTON – A winter’s supply of baked beans cooked by a 90-year-old member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will be just one of dozens of items on the block for bidders at a silent auction to be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, in North Dining Hall at the University of Maine at Farmington.
The auction features time, talent and treasures donated by members of the Farmington-Wilton area church community to raise money for Haitian relief.
In addition to the beans, there will be other food items, including a Maine “chowdah” supper for eight and a Mexican “murder dinner” party for six. A bread and pie of the month, an organic frozen turkey and a selection of coffees, grinders and pots will also be available.
One of the more unusual items up for bid will be a teeth bleaching service provided by an area dentist. Other offers of time and talent will include wood splitting, leaf raking and wood stacking. Of interest to skiers are day passes to Saddleback and Titcomb ski areas as well as a weekend stay at a camp at Sugarloaf.
Proceeds from this event will go toward helping the thousands of homeless and hungry Haitians who have been battered by a hurricane and civil strife. The funds will go to the 2004 Haiti Hurricane Relief Fund providing emergency assistance to Haiti through the Episcopal Relief and Development Fund of the national church.
Entertainment for the event will be provided by Hank Washburn and the Racket Factory. Numerous door prizes and refreshments will also be provided. All are welcome.
