Dear Sun Spots: In June of 2002, I wrote to Sun Spots requesting help in locating original Skip Bo playing cards for my then 98-year-old mother. The original cards had the big numbers printed on a white background and are easier for her to see than the newer edition. The response to my request was overwhelming. I wrote on June 22, 2002, thanking your readers and requesting that they stop sending cards.
Well, here I am again.
Mom turned 100 on July 14, 2004. She still loves to play Skip Bo, still plays very competitively and our last pack of cards is getting very worn.
If we didn’t exhaust the supply with our last request, we are asking once more for help. Please send to Ersel Murphy, 73 Mayville Road, Bethel, ME 03217. We can be reached at (207)824-2823. – Jim Murphy, Bethel.
Answer: How wonderful, Jim! I do recall your request. Please wish your mother a very happy belated birthday from all of us here. Hopefully you and your mother will get plenty of responses with this request and most importantly a new deck of cards. Please note if you are having difficulty in finding a deck of cards, Sun Spots located some online at http://thehouseofcards.com/retail/skipbo.html. In addition, contact Victor News in Lewiston who have some decks on their shelves. They can be reached at (207) 782-0521.

Dear Sun Spots: The BookReach program of the Auburn and Lewiston public libraries is very much in need of volunteers to share about one morning hour per week, reading aloud to young children in Lewiston or Auburn. After attending a brief orientation, each volunteer reader is matched with a licensed family child-care home where he/she reads from a different bag of books every one to two weeks.
This is a wonderful opportunity for people who would enjoy introducing young children to the wonder of stories, and who would like to give to our community in a meaningful and positive way.
In addition, I welcome the opportunity to speak for 15-30 minutes, day or evening, to community service organizations, church groups and others about BookReach.
Please call Kathleen Demers, BookReach Coordinator, at 784-0135, ext. 213, to learn more. – Kathleen Demers, Lewiston.
Dear Sun Spots: My letter must have been lost as my question has not been answered.
I wish to try again.
I am trying to find a video of “Driving Miss Daisy” with Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman. If anyone has one to sell, I will pay a reasonable price. I can be reached at (207) 782-1365. – Theresa Stasick, Auburn.
