PARIS – A Rumford man accused of subjecting a Peru girl to sexual contact has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of assault.
Oxford County Superior Court Judge Roland A. Cole sentenced John Paul Gardner, 33, to 90 days in the county jail after prosecutor Joseph O’Connor agreed to drop a felony charge of unlawful sexual contact in return for the plea.
Gardner, who began serving his sentence Oct. 29 when he pleaded guilty, was indicted May 20 by an Oxford County grand jury on a charge of intentionally subjecting the girl to sexual contact on Jan. 15, according to the indictment. The contact reportedly was not consensual, the indictment stated.
According to court documents, Gardner is to have no contact with the girl or any others under the age of 16. He must also submit to random search and testing for alcohol and drugs on reasonable suspicion of use or possession.
