The election results had nothing to do with morals or values. Two factors caused the election of President Bush. First, many people did not want to change commander in chief in a time of “war.” Second, there is a huge regional rift in this country.

It is interesting that people rejected a change in leadership in a time of “war” since no war had ever been declared by Congress. Only Congress may declare war. This makes Karl Rove’s statement about not bringing out a new product until the fall all that much more sinister. As a nation, we don’t know with whom we are at war and we have no idea what victory would look like. Neither do we have any estimate of the cost in lives and money.

If you are ever asked who won the Civil War, you may now answer the Southern states did when Ronald Reagan was elected in 1980. Clearly the regional rift that existed in 1860 is still there today. The worst mistake the North ever made was not letting the South secede in 1860. Maybe if we told them that they finally won, they would just go away. This would leave us with a more educated, wealthier and more progressive country.

All the talk of Christian conservatives and moral values is just nonsense. These people have no idea of who Christ was or what he taught. Christ taught peace, love and compassion, not war, hate and loathing.
