DIXFIELD – A state-acquired building and attached garage on Route 2 in Dixfield may be burned down this winter.

That’s what Dixfield Fire Co. Chief Scott Blaisdell told selectmen Monday night.

Blaisdell said he had been contacted by the Maine Department of Transportation, which asked if the Fire Department would be interested in burning the building for training purposes.

Hector Girardin Jr., who lives nearby, said the state bought the house from his sister prior to a road-widening and reconstruction project.

The house was owned for many years by Girardin’s father, Hector Girardin Sr.

The training burn is not expected to take place until after hunting season, said Dixfield Town Manager Nanci Allard.
