Preschool reading

FARMINGTON – Area children preschool-age and younger are invited to Mallett School on Monday, Nov. 15, to pick out a free book as part of one of three annual literacy events offered at the school through the Reading is Fundamental program.

RIF is a federally funded program that prepares and motivates children to read by delivering free books and literacy resources to schools. For the second year, Mallett School has received a grant to participate in the program and offer three free books to all its students and area pre-kindergarten children over the course of the year.

The November event is the first distribution of the 2004-05 school year. A similar event will also be offered in January. Area parents and pre-kindergarten-age children are invited to visit the school between 10 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. on Nov. 15 to select a free book from dozens of titles written for young children. For more information, contact Melvin Burnham, principal, at 778-3529.
