BYRON – The Byron Fire Department is three-for-three.
The town learned this week that is has received a second Department of Homeland Security grant, this time for just under $11,000.
Rosie White, town clerk and a firefighter, said the money will be used to buy hoses, couplings, nozzles and strainers for a new 2004 tanker/pumper truck expected to arrive next month. Other required equipment was donated by area fire departments, she said.
Most of the cost of the truck was financed by another Homeland Security grant of $135,000. The town had to provide a $15,000 match.
And also just recently, the Byron Fire Department received a $4,800 grant from the Oxford County Regional Communications Center to buy 12 pagers. The department had not had pagers in the past.
“We’re extremely pleased,” said White.
The grants were written by White, Bob Susbury and Fire Chief Wayne Hamel.
