RUMFORD – Whether a new town manager is named at Thursday’s Board of Selectmen’s meeting is uncertain.

Board Chairman Jim Thibodeau said the Town Manager Search Committee settled on a final candidate for the position last week. Now, the board and the candidate are in negotiations for salary and benefits.

More than 30 people submitted applications for the position, and seven were interviewed. Second interviews were conducted for the two semifinalists.

Town officials began their search for a new leader soon after longtime manager, Robert Welch, resigned in June. He has served 10 years in the position.

Thibodeau is hopeful that a new person will be on board by the first of December.

Other agenda items include opening bids for the sale of town-owned sanders and a roller, and action on the winter parking ban. The overnight parking ban generally begins no later than Dec. 1, and earlier if significant snow falls.
