GREENWOOD – It will be at least another six weeks before a vacancy created by the recall of Ivan Roberts is filled on the Greenwood Board of Selectmen.

Roberts was removed from office with a vote of 70-23 at a special town meeting Oct. 14.

At that time, Selectman Wayne Hakala suggested the town “settle down” before moving forward with plans to elect a replacement.

Hakala could not be reached for comment Monday, but selectmen Chairman Fred Henderson said he expects the town to hold a special town meeting to elect a new selectman in January.

“We’ll have to set (the date) sometime in December – there are certain limits on notice or whatnot,” Henderson said.

Town Manager Kim Green said a new selectman will be both nominated and elected at the town meeting.

Meanwhile, Henderson and Hakala will continue to run the town. Henderson said he has four years of experience as selectman and Hakala has about six.

“Everything’s fine,” he said, adding that only a few people have made mention of the board’s vacancy.
