SOUTH PARIS – Romeo P. Fournier, 84, widower of Louise Sotman Fournier of 1 Kimball Ave., Mexico, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, at the Maine Veterans Home where he had been a patient for more than three years, eight months.

He was born July 19, 1920, in Chisholm the son of Peter and Celestine Castonguay Fournier. A resident of the community most of his life, he was a communicant of St. Theresa’s Church and a graduate of Mexico High School in the Class of 1940.

During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy in the Atlantic and Pacific Theater of Operation. He was discharged from the Navy with the rate of MM 3rd class.

Mr. Fournier owned and operated Rommy’s Market in Mexico for more than 29 years. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Oakdale Country Club, life-member of the Napoleon Ouellette Post of the American Legion, life-member of the Robert Shand Post of the VFW, life-member of the Rumford Lodge of the Elks, member of the Mexico Lions Club for more than 20 years serving as King Lion one year, member of St. Theresa’s Parish Council serving as chairman for five years and served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Mexico Water District.

Survivors include a daughter, Melody Kasheta and her husband, Francis, of Dudley, Mass.; a brother, Roger, of Auburn; three sisters, Priscilla Bilodeau, Theresa Gagne and Julie Simard, all of Auburn; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two special nieces, Jeannette Cormier and Joan Fuller.
