LEWISTON – Beacon Hospice announces the graduation of two groups of volunteers from its training program in October.

Graduates included Pauline Libby, Linda Murphy, Barbara Lake, Connie Cabatingan, Karen Dan, Ellen Della Torre, Patricia Pepin, Chris Small, Alisa Small, Janine Valliere and Nancy Farrell.

The volunteers were required to complete a seven-session, comprehensive training to prepare them for the hospice experience. Each session featured a presentation by a member of the hospice team.

The group explored a range of topics, including hospice philosophy, pain management, family dynamics and communication, spirituality, bereavement and volunteer rights and responsibilities. A certificate was awarded to each participant successfully completing the training.

Upon graduation, volunteers are ready to begin working with patients and their family members.

Beacon Hospice is looking for more people to volunteer. Hospice is a special kind of care designed for people with life-limiting illnesses, emphasizing quality of care and quality of life.

The volunteer training is free. For additional information or to sign up for the next training session, contact Eileen Chretien at 784-4242.
